Got kids getting ready for college? Are you scared? I have to admit- I am! I have two kids on the brink, and my knees are knocking! It is SO COMPLICATED and SO SO COSTLY. Tests, applications, financial papers, going bankrupt…. gah! Isn’t there ANYTHING to make this easier and less expensive?!
Actually there is. :D
And it’s on Facebook! It’s called CampusReady on Facebook. I was toodling around with it tonight- it’s a a really nifty application that combines the typical “fun” Facebooky kind of stuff with some great ways to get parents and grandparents to give the college-bound kid some moola. :D

Those kinds of things are always so handy. It’s crafted by the very kind and considerate folks at Sears.
They call it Sears CampusReady, and the site is really neat (even if you aren’t on your way to college). It’s loaded with EVERYTHING your kid needs to prepare for college and more, including dorm room design ideas, an interacive checklist of stuff you need to pack for college, advice to students on spending money wisely, and — I think this is best of all- a way to get more loot from the folks at home! Read: reloadable Sears gift cards! It’s ingenious, really. How I wish I had something like this as a kid!
Seriously, having money on hand is PREMIUM during college. College is expensive enough! Sears has set up a gift card system that’s shared by parent and student- the parents can load funds to the card (this can be done either in the local Sears or Kmart store, or online), and the student can use the gift cards for their needs while away. That’s the beauty of Sears, actually- there are always stores somewhere so if you live in New York and your child is goin goff to Idaho or something, there are Sears stores everywhere.
The gift cards have to be purchased at the store themselves- you can’t get them online. But once you have purchased it, you can reload the card online or in the store. It’s extremely convenient, and it’s brilliant, just brilliant. Check out the Sears CampusReady website for more details, and have a look at the site for really great ideas on design and smart spending, too. Sending your kid off to college is hard enough- emotionally, mentally and financially; make the transition a little easier for yourself and for your collegiate both with the convenience and comfort of the Sears name and knowing that Sears can take care of those campus needs!
And P.S. It sure beats giving the kid a credit card where the sky is the limit! ![]()
