Did you know that there is something VERY disconcerting about hearing your high school prom songs on the radio, and the DJ announcing them as “oldies.” :hmph: Hey bub, I ain’t THAT old! If you are over the age of 35, you may feel this way, too. But I will admit that there ARE some, um, shall we say nostalgic, elements about our youth that we still savor now and then.
So without further ado… Frugal Hacks- the Kmart Bluelight Specials are BACK!! Woooo! The Bluelight Special is probably THE only good thing to come out the 70s. It’s back for a limited time: this weekend! July 25, to be exact. So be there or be square, daddy-o.
Kmart’s Bluelight Specials first started in 1965, in an Indiana Kmart store that used a police car light to draw attention to discounted items. But it was phased out in the mid 90s, because consumer spending and shopping changed (people got more extravangant and were less budget-conscious, is my guess). But things are a bit more FRUGAL today and Kmart is very aware of this. According to polls, people really like the Kmart Bluelight Specials. I remember them as a kid. My mom and I would be browsing the housewares section (still a very cool section to browse), and over the loudspeaker we’d hear, “Attention Kmart shoppers!” The deal would be announced and frugal ladies would gather festively toward the flashing blue lamp above them. Kinda like bugs to a patio flood light. Except bugs are zapped, the ladies got deals.
ANYWAY, I think it’s great that Kmart is bringing this back, even if it just for a day. I’m hoping it does well and Kmart decides to bring it back permanently. It’s a nice touch of nostalgia, but especially a nice touch when it comes to saving that ever-shrinking dollar in today’s economy. The Kmart Bluelight Specials are happening ONLY on July 25th, just in time for my birthday! :wubs: How did they know?!
Kmart is a great place for clothes- I’m hoping for some nice casual wear for kids is on the BLS slate. And *ahem cough cough* for some patio furniture for me to sit outside with my laptop. Kmart says they plan on having 40 or more Bluelight Specials in-store AND other good deals will be available at Kmart.com. But it is ONLY this Saturday. Am constantly entertained by coming to read your blog. I love KMart so thank you for the tip. We have several Marts here: Wal, K and Save so when I do the Marts I do them all.
