Whew. I’m exhausted. It’s been a busy day for me today. I took my daughter to the orthodontist (no more braces! yay!) and after that, we went driving around looking for adventure, to celebrate. I’ll have more about it on my travel blog, but one cool thing I will share here is that we took a jaunt out on the frozen Oneida Lake. It was fun!
I grew up by the lake, but my parents would never let us kids out onto the lake during the winter. So for the first time- finally feeling independent at age 40+ here- I stepped out onto the frozen lake. We walked about 150 feet out or so. Snowmobile tracks were everywhere. It must be so thrilling to ride a snowmobile out here. We also saw some ice fishermen out toward the center of the lake. They are the tiny little dark speck you see in the photo. You can click the photo for a larger view.
So anyway, I’m exhausted after a long day out. I came home, took the boys out for a small shopping spree (they felt left out after their sister got to be out) and we got a few nice toys. Then I cooked a chicken dinner for the family, did some posts for the blogs, and I am ready to konk out. I am hoping I’ll get to the Entrecard blogs tonight, but I may fall asleep before I finish. I’m bushed! It’s been a full day.
But I’m so glad I got to walk out on the frozen lake at last! *hee hee*

Wow… amazing pictures. The lake is so imense, and it looks you´re so near the sky, cool effect.
I´m doing my EC round early in the morning, if I leave it for night it´s difficult to finish it. Lately, I´ve been so sleepy.
Good Tuesday xx

Walking on the frozen lake sounds dangerous to me-no wonder your parents never let you do it! I would be very afraid that the ice would break and I’d fall in freezing cold water and drown because I am not a swimmer. I’m glad you are okay!

Karen, it’s quite safe. We’ve had sub-zero temperatures for about two weeks now, and the lake is frozen solid. There were snowmobile tracks leading out, and elsewhere on the lake were fishermen. But I can see why kids are discouraged from going out, as their judgments are not too good yet.
It was exhilarating, that’s for sure! Gonna do it again, sometime- maybe even go further out! The air was ice cold and burned our lungs. We could only stay out for so long, unprepared as we were.

You know what happened the only time I’ve ever walked out on a frozen lake? I got grounded (again…having just gotten off grounding). If I could find a nice frozen lake again, I might do it. With my hubby on the shore, just in case :-D…Wow, that was nearly 20 years ago!
