My husband passed this video along to me. He plays guitar, and finds this song hilariously funny. And it IS funny. The first 20, 30 times, that is. After that, it gets kinda old.
It’s by Ray Stevens, that barrel of laughs himself. As a favor to you, my dearly devoted reader, I’ll post the Gitarzan video for you. So that YOU TOO can have this song playing through your head for the next five days, haha!!
Ray Stevens wrote the song in 1969. Can you tell? It was at a time when other songs like “Alley Opp” and “Ahab the Arab” were played.
WHAT was WRONG with that generation?!
lol, you know I’m kidding, right? heehee
The song was apparently VERY popular in North America. In 1969, “Gitarzan” rocketed to the #8 spot on Billboard in the U.S., and #10 in Canada. Other countries were burning the vinyl disks and cleansing their ears with vinegar.
Have a great day!

I love this song!! It was popular when I was in about 5th grade. My “boyfriend’s” father was a DJ on one of the local radio stations and he dedicated this song to me on my birthday. Thanks for the smile today!

Beverly- I’m glad you liked it! It is a pretty funny song. The video is hilarious. The only problem is that the song runs through my head FOREVER.
Hey, I was a DJ, too! I don’t remember playing this song, though, even through I played the old classics. Maybe the boss didn’t like it. He was such an ape sometimes! LOL

OH NO! When I was in college, I went down to Florida to take care of my cousins while my aunt was in the hospital and my uncle worked. I was driving those kids all over town with that 8 track stuck in the player. KILL ME NOW! Thanks for the horrendous memories, pally!

Wow, Lin, what was worse, driving your cousins around town or hearing the song every time you started the engine? Hmmmmm

Can’t STAND that song. Sorry. Not my style, maybe. I just can’t figure what it is about it that I don’t like. 😀 Haha!

Well, maybe if it was to the beat of death metal you’d like it? 😀
It is a song MEANT to be dumb and goofy. OH WAIT, NOW I see why it made the Billboard Chart #8!

Haha! Maybe I would! 😀
