I’ve HAD it. We’ve done next to nothing all summer because it’s been so blasted hot. But I don’t care. Soon winter will be here and I won’t be able to do anything except huddle around my little heater. So despite the scorching heat wave that hasn’t really ended since it began in May, I am going to DO something around here. I’m going to remodel my living room/office. I can no longer tolerate the boxes (and boxes) of books, the stacks of papers all over the floor, the furniture crammed into the corners. I’m gonna remodel!
We intend to paint the walls, sew and hang new (brighter, lighter) curtains, and create a monster built-in bookshelf along one wall. It’s my very first bookcase unit ever, so be praying for me, lol.
Here are some before photos to tantalize your curiosity.
The bare wall once held a couple of those cheapo Chinese particle-board bookcases, the kind you get at Walmart. We cleared everything out last night. They were starting to sag tremendously under the weight of my aged and dusty tomes. My new bookcase unit will tower to the ceiling, sport little lights and look fabulous. At least, that’s how I see it.
Like I said, please be praying for me! 😎

Life is never dull, and exciting things just seem to always happen to me... why me... when I'm not running around the house fixing things, I'm a freelance writer for national media outlets like USAToday.com, Salon.com, and others. I've even been interviewed by TIME and The Wall Street Journal about blogging. Can you believe it?! Here is where I express my zany, creative, motherly side.

If you really don’t want to make a bookcase then check
Craigslist. I saw some made out of REAL WOOD, yes!!
I am going to look at one this Saturday hopefully for $15, its
4 feet long and almost 6 feet tall.
I am slowly putting together my library/sitting room
upstairs. I already have a big bookcase up there but
mostly have knick knacks on it lol. So, of course
I need another bookcase for books!

Oh oh forgot to add…. I have been looking at sites that reuse things
that many people would just throw out.
Beautiful furniture and bookcases can be made from …….
Pallets!!! Yes, Pallets!! :beebop:
Here is one site that made a small book shelf..
