How the Times Change!

Family

Here they come a-rollin’. The birthdays. Now that the holidays are over, you think my shopping is over? Nay! My shopping has only just begun! I think there are… hmm… 10- yes, TEN- birthdays between Christmas and Easter, and that is just the immediate family. I’m exhausted already!

Most of my kids are late winter/early spring babies. My eldest will soon be 19 years old. *sob* I can’t believe how she’s grown up so fast. And I can’t believe how old I’ve gotten so quickly, lol! Things have really changed since then, even in those short 20 years. I know some of you blogger friends reading this are expectant moms. Things have changed SOOO much. Like ultrasounds? Back then, they were fuzzy images, and we got printouts, like a Xerox machine (which, by the way, don’t last long). Today, you lucky ladies get 3D images on a CD disk! Do you have any idea how neat that is?! I wish I’d had that.

Another neat new thing is Cryo-Cell. It’s the name of a company- the largest family cord blood bank and storage service- that will store your baby’s umbilical cord blood. I think it is amazing at how parents are able to take more control of their baby’s health these days with things like this.

Cryo-Cell sells kits. After the birth of the baby, the kit allows your medical assistant to reserve some of the baby’s umbilical cord blood. This reserve is mailed to the Cryo-Cell storage facility, where the cord blood is kept in a storage facility especially for your baby. This blood has stem cells, which have been proven to help with diseases. More and more research is being done on stem cells every year, and they have high hopes that stem cells from umbilical cord blood will help to treat and cure a lot of ailments. It’s a beautiful thing to do for a child. You can even purchase gift certificates to give the gift of Cryo-Cell for expectant parents. See here for current offers.

I remain amazed at the leaps and bounds of technology. I have to wonder how things will be in twenty more years?!
