How’s the Economy For You?

I hardly EVER read the news headlines anymore. Wow, the negativity and angst is almost overwhelming. I don’t want to be a dummy and pretend that the world doesn’t exist, of course, but I don’t want to fill my head with filth and viciousness, either. (Plus, I have been SICK and TIRED of hearing every little thing about this celebrity or that celebrity… :-p).

Remember when the super-high gasoline prices were flooding the news? Hey, um, the gas prices are STILL super high, nary a peep about it, now. And my local news isn’t much better. I think there’s a lot of stuff they purposely do not report. Almost two weeks ago, I drove by a horrible car accident on the highway. The car was crushed like a tuna can. It was very upsetting to see, so my son and I stopped to pray for whoever was in that car. I have been following my local news religiously, looking for mention of the accident. NARY A PEEP. This is from the newspaper that enthusiastically reports every Pinwheel for Peace planted in the lawn of the local school, and every tiny fender bender perpetrated by the local rednecks. NARY a PEEP. What gives?

Another thing is the economy. How’s the economy for you? Yeah. the economy could be better. It could ALWAYS be better. I’ve had a good year, I found a good-paying job online. My Hubs’ jobs have suffered, though. But then, we live in Upstate New York. The economy hit the iceberg here years ago. The politicians cannot save us.

And don’t get me going on the “bailout.” That was, for some odd reason, BIG BIG news when they wanted to pass the blasted things… now that it’s obviously doing nothing but lining politicians’ and bankers’ pockets… NARY A PEEP. :rants: There’s something wrong when a bank will offer only 2% interest on savings, and slam you with 30% interest for borrowing, and demand bailouts from the American government. The government spending us into debt makes everything very unsteady.

Anyway, one investment that has stood the test of time MUCH more reliably than Federal Reserve Notes is gold. Investing in gold is hot. I am thinking of doing it. My savings account is doing NOTHING right now. According to Goldline and the New York Spot Market, gold was selling for $1,200 an ounce recently. I don’t know anything about investing in precious metals, but that price sure got my attention. Goldline offers a free investors kit for those of us who tend to dabble our toes in the water before jumping in. The nice thing about Goldline is that they do not hand you a certificate that SAYS you have gold- they hand you THE GOLD. The REAL stuff! :grinny: I like that. The gold is sold in bullion coins, such as the American Eagle and Canadian Maple Leaf. What was once an investment reserved for the uber-rich (at least, since WWII days) is now becoming available to the average American. We can protect ourselves now, and invest in our own future.

It would be wonderful if our currency was backed by gold, as it once was before the 60s. But I don’t think that’s likely to happen. I think the Powers That Be are more powerful today. Look how they control the banks, the media, everything. They are totally wrecking the economy, and with it, our children’s futures! Time for change- REAL change!

Thus ends my rant for the day. *bows* The End.

My question is where are the jobs, Mr. President? None of his bailouts and stimulus have worked to get the economy rolling again at a pace to lower unemployment. The Fed continues to keep interest rates low in order to prevent deflation so expect gold to rise some more in the future.

That stimulus sure has made a lot of fat cats in banking and government fatter, though…

Truly, government cannot create jobs for the private sector. It can only create jobs for the public sector- itself. These public sector jobs are paid for with higher taxes and heavy regulation of the private sector. It’s a no-brainer, but so many people still believe the brainwashing that government can “create jobs”! It’s so insane.
