OK, after writing my post this morning about how I love (and prefer) Paint Shop Pro over all the other photo/image editing software programs out there, I did a little shopping around for a good tutorial book. I have PSP 8, 9, and 10 (also called “X”), and while I am pretty comfortable using them, there is a LOT of stuff I’d like to learn more about. For one thing, I am have NO IDEA how to fade photos into a color background. I’m trying to make my own customized Twitter background, and this technique of photo fading is baffling! And I can’t find any online tutorials to help me!
So I’ve spent a few hours looking for a good tutorial book.
So far, the best I’ve seen is Corel Paint Shop Pro X, the Official Guide, by David Huss. There are other books in their series for PSP 8 and 9. Be aware, this is NOT the “How To DO Everything With…” book by David Huss published by McGraw. From the reviews I read today, these books do not really show you how to do “everything.” However, The Official Guide looks much more complete. That’s the one I am going to get. The lowest price I’ve seen is at Buy.com, on sale for under $22 (includes shipping). Amazon has it for $137?!?! Go figure. Well, I prefer Buy.com, anyway- they don’t charge sales tax and have terrific customer service. If you haven’t yet seen their weekly sale page, take a look and be prepared to have your socks knocked off.
I hope I’m helping someone with all this! It seems that quite a number of people are looking for some good photo editing software. Paint Shop Pro is really affordable, and there are some really great books to help you through it, too. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me in the comment box!
