I have HAD IT with those battery-powered watches. I hate them. The kids all need watches, as do we adults, and I spend a fortune on watch batteries! They seem to run out almost every other month, and it’s usually *right before* the kids have to wear them to school. Crazy! The batteries are $5 a pop; multiply that times 6 about four times a year… that’s $120 clams for watch batteries. WHAT a hassle!
I’ve been on the prowl for affordable hand-wound, manual watches. I remember them when I was a kid. That’s all that was available, those hand-wound watches. Ohhh, but then the battery-powered came out and everyone wanted the convenience of batteries!
How young and foolish we were back then! Little did we know that the end of an era was closing around us- the age when we did things for ourselves! Now, we are slaves to batteries, and dead batteries at that! :pinch:
OK OK so I’m exaggerating. A LITTLE. I really want to get the kids (at least, the boys) watches without batteries. Can you believe I found one at Buy.com?!
It’s called (*Ahem*), the Nixon Manual Watch Antique. It’s definitely antique- it looks like something my dad used to wear in the 70s. It’s masculine for the boys, though, so that’s nice. Very affordable, as well, under $20! So I’m on the hunt to look for something for the girls, too.
I always check out Buy.com now when I need something. And always look for promo codes when you shop online, too! You can save a bundle. Buy.com has a weekly sale chock full of deals, plus their everyday prices are very low. And Buy.com offers free shipping on a lot of the stuff, too.
I think it’s time to take back our watches, take back our LIVES! Banish battery enslavement! For the amount of money I cough up every year on batteries, I could buy watches for everyone and never have a watch die on me again. Yay!

I suck the life out of watch batteries. It’s not like I do anything different, but my husband’s watch batteries last forever whereas I am lucky if they last 3mos! Of course, I tend to destroy watches anyway… I’ve got one that has lasted through the years, but I no longer wear it. I gave up. Either I guess the time, or go look at my mobile :D Good luck finding girl’s watches! The one you found for your son looks cool. Retro!

Connie, maybe you’ve got more magnetism than your Hubs. ;)
I break watches, too. I am horribly abusive with my hands. I guess I flail them around a lot, enough to always be bashing them. Watches are often caught in the crossfire. :-p
I like the retro look, too.
It’s HARD finding wind-up watches, gah! I should have kept my old ones from my youth…
