One of my FAVORITE movies is The Incredibles. I just love it- the humor, the action, everything. I think I’ve watched it, like, 20 times (so far). I lovelovelove ElastiGirl! (And Edna and Jack-Jack are second favorites). I had no idea that this kind of movie is a “the-marriage-is-dull-let’s-spice-up-the-relationship-with-a-little-danger” movie. But I guess it is. The New York Times said it was so, so of course it must be! But seriously- I kind of like those kinds of movies, where the Mr. and Mrs. have settled into a too-comfortable routine, and they encounter some, uh, death, danger, and bad guys, to- you know- rekindle the flame, so to speak.
There’s a new movie called Date Night, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey. And if you think Carell looks familiar- why yes, he’s in The Office. And if you think Tina Fey looks familiar, well, yes, she was on Saturday Night Live as Sarah Palin. So both actors have a history of making people laugh (or driving people insane, whichever the case may be).
The movie starts out showing how mundane suburban life can be- the gobs of disposable income, the cute but spoiled children, the nice cars, and the absolutely gorgeous house. Yep, SO dull. Well, the couple, Phil and Claire Foster, go on their bi-monthly “date night” and the restaurant is PACKED. So the Mr. decides to “have a little fun” and impersonate another couple who has reservations, the “Tripplehorns.” (I’d sure like to know who came up with the names Mr. and Mrs. Tripplehorn, that oozes mafia all over it, lol!).
The restaurant believes they are the Tripplehorns, but unfortunately, so do the Bad Guys who look like a cross between the IRS, AFTB, and the drug dealers out of a Tom Clancy novel. So the movie is half-mystery (who on earth is chasing them and what do they want?!) and half romantic comedy (which has loads of screwball humor, but some of it is risque, in my opinion- there’s a scene in a strip club- the movie makes it all “funny” but we all know what I think about that! :-p ). But I love the scene where Claire tells her Hubs that she absolutely refuses to die, because she will NOT let her children be raised by her mother-in-law! Now that’s motivation, people!
The film is rated PG-13 for “you know what” stuff (bummer) and some violence (lots of bad guys pointing guns and LOTS of breaking glass)- but there is a totally cool car chase in the movie, I hear. The movie has a happy ending, too- the couple survives! And so does their marriage. ;) You can check out more at the Date Night Movie website. In theatres April 9th!

ROFL … this looks so familiar. =) My post comes out tomorrow. LOL I SO badly want to see this movie!!! I LOVE Steve Carell! I don’t recognize him from Night at the Museum, but from The Office. It’s our favorite show. I cannot wait to see this movie!

Sounds hilarious and like a movie I would enjoy ……….except I am not especially a fan of Tina Fey.

Yeah, I don’t care for Fey, either. And I do not appreciate racy or obscene stuff in movies. I wish they wouldn’t add them.
