Meet Me on Monday #26

MMoM

It’s Monday already?! Time for another meme! This is a nice one (and I don’t have to think very hard to do it). If you are a new (or old) visitor, would you consider “following” me with Google Friends Connect over there in the sidebar? I promise I will follow you back! 😀

On with the show…

Questions:

1. How do you order your steak?
With a pickle and fries. :pinch:

I don’t order steak. Never. I can’t think of a time when I have. When I go out to eat (which is very rare), I always order seafood. I don’t buy or cook seafood at home very often, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE seafood. So when i go out to eat, it’s a special treat.

If I have steak at home, it’s only in the summertime when I barbeque it on the grill. And I like it so well done that the outside is black.

2. Are you superstitious about anything?

Nope.

One of my grandmothers was horribly superstitious, to the brink of insanity, I think. She believed that eating a cooked rat cured bedwetting. She thought that if you drove a car under a bridge with a train roaring on the tracks overhead, it was “bad luck or death.” Hm, which is worse? She had a St. Christopher idol in her car. She hated priests but ran to them every time she had a problem. She was WEIRD. My mom said it was because she grew up in an isolated Italian neighborhood of Syracuse. I guess Italians are supposed to be prone to superstition?! I don’t necessarily agree with that because I think humankind has proven itself to be pretty dumb on a very broad level, undefined by ethnicity and geographic borders. She married a Jew, who was superstitious, too. But at least he kept it to himself, and didn’t scare us with wacky stories. 😕 One thing he used to do was pop out his dentures at us kids when the parents weren’t looking. We were fascinated. And bought him Dentu-Cream every year for Christmas, haha (yes, he celebrated Christmas- the gifts, anyway).

3. Who is your best friend (not including your spouse)?

Oh my gosh, I have too many to list here! The cool thing about the Internet is that my Best Friend List just keeps getting longer and longer.

4. When is the last time your wore a dress (for the guys…a suit)?

A…. dress, you said? uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Well, a LONG time. Not long enough, though. I dislike dresses. It’s too much work, and for what? Feeling uncomfortable all day? To wear a dress, you have to shave your legs, locate some nylons that don’t have any runs or warps in them… find another pair after you sliced the first pair when putting them on…. squeeeeze into the nylons that you DO find…. find a slip…. wear the blasted dress… and then- worst of all- wear high heels! What a travesty for women everywhere, having to teeter around in Barbie shoes. When I lived in New York City, I could dress anyway I wanted except that for certain classes we girls HAD to wear a dress. Well, I wore thick stockings (so I didn’t have to shave my legs) and sneakers (so I didn’t have to wear heels). One of the funniest memories I have is watching these rail-thin women in skimpy dresses and 10-inch heels tottering around Manhattan streets, buffeted by the intense ocean winds and blowing around like leaves. Not to mention that they couldn’t outrun the lechers. :-p

I also had to wear a dress when I worked in radio (the boss believed it was sinful for women to wear pants because it made women act masculine). The station was on top of this steep mountain. When it snowed, the roads would be filled with three feet or more of snow (not including the amount from the snowdrifts). In order to get up that mountain to go to work, I used to have plow through the drifts with my compact car. When I got stuck (happened often), I’d have to shovel out the drifts and lay salt, then hop in my car and try again. When I got to the radio station, I also had to haul the wood to the woodstove (it was the only source of heat there), and fill the stove every hour or so. Ah, BUT I WORE A DRESS to prove my femininity! :wazzat:

5. Do you have any trips scheduled?

If I did, I sure wouldn’t tell Twitter, Facebook, or Google. :happyhey: Hi, Google! Yeah, call me paranoid but haven’t you heard of PleaseRobMe.com?

As usual, this was a fun one. Please leave your comments, I’d love to read your answers! 😀

Oh My Goodness..Loved the Video, I am still laughing! About wearing dresses..I am with you I do not wear one often(last time was to my son’s wedding) but the Good News that I learned before the wedding is this; Nylons are No Longer required!!!!!!! The wedding was quite upscale, new daughter-in-laws Mom is an Attorney and Dad is CEO of large company. I do not think woman, including me, wore nylons and thank goodness because it was 104 degrees that day!

I hate dresses too, for the very reasons you mention here. As a toddler, it seems I was always in a dress, then we had to wear them in school (or a skirt)-did you used to have Friday flip up days when the boys flipped up the girls dresses? I remember those!

Then finally college and work came along where I could wear pants. Then I just wore a dress or skirt on Sundays. Now, times have changed again (I think for the better in this case) and now I wear slacks to church too! If I had a decent pair of heels that didn’t hurt my feet, I would wear a dress at least once in awhile.

The only time I like dresses is in the summer with sandals or flip-flops. I love how nice and cool they are.

My grandpa used to flip his dentures out too and all of us kids would try to do the same with OUR teeth! We had no idea how he could do that!
