Meet Me on Monday #31

MMoM

I’m in a rush today. Lots of work, an appointment, and I promised I’d take my daughter out to lunch today. She hasn’t been out in SO long (she’s a bookworm), so I’m determined to make this a nice time for her. 😀

So my MMoM will be short and sweet. Please leave your own link to MMoM in my comments, so that I can visit later! Also, if you don’t already follow me on Google Friends Connect, I would love it if you would! I follow back!

Questions:
1. Do you like your ice cream in a dish, waffle cone, pretzel cone, sugar cone or cake cone?
Well, if I had my druthers, I’d prefer it in a dish, where I can feel it’s icy smooth texture in my mouth unimpeded by an annoyingly crunchy cone…. YUMMMM. :awe:

Where was I?

Oh, cone- umm well I guess if i HAD to choose a cone to contain the creamy goodness, I’d go with sugar cone. I’ve never heard of a pretzel cone or a cake cone. Wow, I must be way out of touch when it comes to cone technology…

2. Do you read the newspaper daily?
Lord, no. We only get the paper for the dogs. And even they start to show signs of depression after using it. :grinny:

3. Marinara or meat sauce?
Both. I like my spaghetti sauce thin with lots of vegetables, but I also like meat. OOOO I made the most fabulous meatballs the other day! An old Italian secret to making good meatballs: don’t fry or bake the meatballs. Place them in a Dutch oven with about 1/2-inch of water, and steam them for about 2 minutes. Drain the water. Dump in your tomato sauce (prepared or homemade, whatever) and simmer on the stove for 1-2 hours. Don’t stir the pot, but shake the pot (covered with a lid) frequently to make the balls roll turn over. The meatballs will turn out SO savory and soft. Yum!

4. Last time you cried?
Sunday, last. When I survey the wondrous cross….. 😀

5. What word/phrase do you find really annoying?
I could probably write a book about this, lol. I absolutely hate it when I hear the name of Christ used as a curse word. If you want to curse, use your own dang name.

Please leave your link in the comments so I can visit you later. Thanks for visiting me! Have a great week!

  2. Beverly @ The Buzz Says:

Absolutely LOVE the last answer! Have you seen the recent ads against using the word ‘gay’ to describe something? A couple of teens are doing it and someone starts using the teens’ names the same way. They don’t like it much. Makes you think!

Can’t wait to try your meatball trick!

  3. Karen and Gerard Says:

Crying on that song shows you have a tender heart toward God-a very good thing! I liked the picture of the cross so much I went over to freephoto.com but it didn’t look like they are completely free after all, are they?

  4. Rebecca Says:

Hi Beverly! No, I haven’t seen the ads. I am a writer, so I’m fussy about words. I wish people would stop using other people’s names as epithets. But I guess that’s like asking humans to stop breathing…. lol.

  5. Rebecca Says:

Hi Karen. Well, free as in you don’t have to pay money. You have to do a bunch of hoops and hurdles, like mention where the photo is from, and link back to them. And oops, I forgot to link back, so I have to fix that. Thanks for mentioning it all!

  6. Jules Says:

I’ve never heard of steaming meatballs. I just might have to try that!

  7. Rebecca Says:

    Thanks for your comment, Jules!

Yep, the meatballs turn out so good! Some Italian ladies just drop their raw meatballs in the tomato sauce and cook them that way, but I like to mix in a little sausage with my meat, and dislike the fat that gets into the sauce. So I quickly steam them to get rid of the grease, drain them, and then add the sauce. It’s worked out so well every time, and they are so soft and good!

I love the way you said, “If you want to curse, use your own dang name.”

Thanks for your comment, Jo-anne! I hope you enjoy your meatballs!

  13. Rebecca Says:

A Dutch oven is…. well, it’s a… hmmm. I don’t think I can insert a photo link here…. it’s a stovetop round pan that usually holds, what, 2 quarts? It has small handles on each end. The pan is about 10 inches diameter, maybe 6 inches high. It’s called a Dutch oven because the Dutch used to use it both on top of the stove and in the stove. It’s versatile like that. 😀 I hope I’m clear.

    Very interesting post.

I love that last point. A few days ago, I saw someone using the Name of Jesus as a curse word… nothing new there, I know. But it got me thinking: Why do people use the Holy Name of Jesus to express disgust? There are other terms that are more apt, though I don’t advocate swearing. As for your point — “Use your own dang name” (Love that, BTW) — I heard Ray Comfort say, “Why not use the name of Buddha or Hitler instead?”
