I don’t believe in magic. I believe in God, I believe in miracles, but I’m also a practical Yankee girl, and when it comes to cleaning- it’s all a matter of elbow grease, isn’t it? Or, in my home, a miracle or two…
I’m talking about my bathtub. I think the previous owners installed the tub in… 1980? It’s a fiberglass tub, and it’s had it’s share of use. And soap scum sticks to that tub like cockleburrs on my cat’s tail. We have tried everything. Sprays, toxic chemicals, scraping with a plastic spatula, nuclear fission, everything. Well, OK, maybe not nuclear fission. That probably wouldn’t get the scum off anyway. It doesn’t take long for the scum to build up, either- we spend all day Saturday, scrubbing that blasted tub, only to find ourselves sinking knee-deep into scummy Irish Spring residue by Wednesday! Gah!
ANYWAY. I got this stuff in the mail from an advertiser. They said it would take the scum off. I was dubious. Not even nuclear fission could do it (theoretically speaking, of course).
This is “new” Mr. Clean. Here’s the scoop:
- Removes soap scum better then the leading bathroom spray.
- The foam pads are 30% larger and more durable.
- The foam pads have the Febreze Meadows & Rain scent (and it is very nice, it made the whole house smell good).
- The foam pads contain a special cleanser that dissolves scum
- The foam pads are totally non-abrasive and will not scratch surfaces (not even my 1980 fiberglass tub!)
Hmm, sounds like a miracle-making product to me! I promptly gave the box to my slaves cleaning crew my adorable kids and told them to give it a try. (Cleaning is good exercise for kids, yes, builds muscle).
They came back and reported that Mr. Clean is a marvel! The TUB is CLEAN, people! The foam on the pads knocked that soap scum into little whining, whimpering, weakened little particles that washed down the drain, muahahah!
Seriously, I was surprised. We’ve tried a lot of stuff, even the “old and unimproved” Mr. Clean Magic Eraser before, and it took a LOT of scrubbing to defeat the evil villianous soap scum. My daughter said she really likes these “new and improved” erasers- the foam pads themselves are OK, but there’s some special cleanser inside the pads that takes the scum right off. She used both pads for our tub, and one of them did rip. She said that the only negative thing about Mr. Clean Magic Erasers is that you can’t reuse the foam pads. Once the scrubby cleanser is used up from the pads, that’s it, no recycling the foam pads. So you have to buy another pack to clean the tub again.
I’m happy she we managed to get the soap scum off, though!
Mr. Clean is not cheap. The recommended retail price is $3.69. Alice.com has it for $3.59. I didn’t see it at Walgreens online, although they do have the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers in small sizes without the Febreze. The Febreze is a nice touch, I must add. When you have guests over, the last thing you want them to smell is Clorox or that stinky bath-and-tile spray cleanser, ick.

My cleaning lady uses these in my tub. We have horrible rusty water.

You have me convinced to give these a try - hopefully with a coupon. And as chea..umm…frugal as I am, I will find a way to use the desoaped foam remainders - to clean litterboxes, make Christmas Angel skirts, mattresses for a dollhouse?

Fasthosts procedures are completely defective. Whoever set things up was had no idea wtf they were doing. In fact, they fail to notify domain administrative contacts when a domain is due to expire. Test them before paying for their service. Email any support related Fasthosts email address and see if your enquiry is handled or alternatively if you get an example of how hard someone is to reach! Fasthosts puts huge numbers of roadblocks such that customer service is virtually inaccessible. In my opinion any choice other than Fasthosts is a good one. Run as fast as your feet can carry you.
