Oh My Aching Hands!

I wash my dishes by hand. In the summer, it’s not too bad, but come winter, my hands are so dry and sore that they crack and bleed. I’ve been experimenting with various hand lotions to help solve this problem (it’s gotten worse since I’ve gotten older). But the problem with hand lotion is that it needs to STAY ON in order to moisturize your hands! My hands are ALWAYS in water- laundry, dishes, washing hands constantly, etc.

So I guess you can say I went straight to the horse’s mouth. I decided to tackle the moisturizing problem by dealing with the water that my hands are in! The people at Dawn dishwashing detergent (Proctor & Gamble) apparently have had us poor ladies in mind. They invented this interesting stuff called “Dawn Plus Hand Renewal.” I got some and have been trying it all week.

The stuff smells HEAVENLY. I got the Pomegranate Splash. It looks like a melted creamsicle. The detergent is silky. Although I fell in love with the feel and the smell, I did wonder if this stuff would rinse off the dishes well. I hate dish detergent residue on my dishes, ick! And although I like the pomegranate smell on my hands, I’d rather not smell it on my spaghetti or in my salad.

I’m happy to report that the detergent DID rinse off- pretty well. I think it takes a little effort to thoroughly rinse it off (remember, I’m very fussy). I did not smell the odor on my plates after rinsing.

Dawn Plus Hand Renewal is nice. I think it’s made a difference with my hands. But winter hasn’t really started yet, and I’ll definitely know by December if it’s helping my poor dry hands. The detergent is pricey, $3.68 here, but I saw it on sale at CVS for 99 cents in September! And the company has had some coupons circulating a few weeks ago. So if you can get it on sale, it’s definitely worth it! Plus, think of all that hand lotion you’ll save!

I am definitely going to have to check this stuff out. I have the same skin problems as you come winter and my boyfriend is a fanatic about needing to not smell dish detergent on dishes after rinsing.
