I spent some time today looking through my photos of the summer’s home renovation project. I needed to collect a few “best of the best” photos to share with a relative, and stopped when I saw this photo.
Isn’t it beautiful? :awe:
It wasn’t an easy task, getting this all symmetrical! My house is very old, nothing is plumb, and all the modern measurements mean nothing here. So stock cabinets wouldn’t fit fin the space I had, because stock cabinets only come in widths of 9 inches, 12 inches, 15 inches, 18 inches, etc. There’s nothing like 13.75 inches. So we had to fudge a little a lot to make it all work. And it did!
I was so tempted to get an undermount kitchen sink for this counter. I just love the countertop. An undermount would have given such a sleek, streamlined look to the counters. But I couldn’t find anything affordable. That was before I knew about mrdirectint.com. They have superb undermount kitchen sinks- many of them are a fraction of what they cost at the Big Box stores. They also offer same-day shipping for you last-minutes Louies, too. I’ll definitely be looking into them when we redo the bathrooms and laundry room area. Do check them out if you need a new sink!
But I am very happy with my kitchen sink area. I think the window turned out so well (it’s a miracle!) and the cellular blinds add a gauzy, romantic feel. The only thing missing is a little color, which is in the works.

Life is never dull, and exciting things just seem to always happen to me... why me... when I'm not running around the house fixing things, I'm a freelance writer for national media outlets like USAToday.com, Salon.com, and others. I've even been interviewed by TIME and The Wall Street Journal about blogging. Can you believe it?! Here is where I express my zany, creative, motherly side.

That IS lovely! I can appreciate the work that it took to make everything fit and look great. I swear our house is leaning! Nothing is normal and I’m just waiting to hit the wrong spot and the whole thing is gonna collapse like the house in “Carrie”. Sigh.

It’s beautiful! And the counter looks like a lot of fun, too!
A pretty counter makes cooking and cleaning so much more worth it!
