Something Beautiful: Thy Word

Fun

I’m joining Renee’s meme, Something Beautiful! Check it out!

This is something beautiful. To me, anyway.

Bible

BibleInside

It’s an old Bible. It was the Mecomber family Bible, way back in 1884. It’s a remarkable book, it contains some exquisite lithographs as well as Josephus’ Antiquities of the Jews, a dictionary, concordance, and more. It also has several pages of genealogy information, including the 1884 marriage certificate of my great-great-great grandparents! It’s one of my most cherished treasures.

But best of all, the Bible has the scriptures. I absolutely love reading the Bible.

The Lord finds great pleasure in His people. He will beautify the humble with salvation. Psalm 149:4

That is a real treasure. For various reasons as you have written. My sister has great grandmother’s family Bible. Thanks to genealogical info there, I was able to trace grandmother’s family line to German speaking Mennonites in Pennsylvania. Many ancestors on that branch came from Germany and a few from Holland.

Ooo I love genealogy! I spent quite a bit of time on it, years ago. But I hit a few gene jackpots, and was able to trace my ancestors back to the 900s. One guy was King of Jerusalem way back when. The history is so very thrilling!! Thank God the English and French kept such good records, lol.

        Thanks, Karen! Thank, Renee! :D

Chuck, that is very cool about your ancestors!! Do the Mennonites keep genealogy records? Wow, are their relatives of yours still living as Mennonites?
