Take Care of Yourself!

My two bits

One thing I have learned — the hard way, unfortunately- is that no home project or job is worth sacrificing your good health. Last year, I pulled a muscle in my shoulder, where the arm goes into the shoulder socket. I did too much overhead drilling when I had to make holes for electrical wiring, through 4-inch, 150-year old beams. Owww. It took me about a year to recover, and I just recently pulled it again when working on the concrete walkway with the kids. sheesh! But I just refuse to get old, lol!

When I was young, I had carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel is, basically, pain from a pinched nerve (the median nerve) in the wrist. It feels like your thumb and pointy finger are numb, and sometimes produces pain in the area. I suffered from extreme numbness, because did too much typing- not the soft pedal typing that you young whippersnappers do on your cushy keyboards today, no! This was on manual (not even electric) typewriters! All that smashing on keys down on paper almost wrecked my wrists! Every once in a while it flares up when I go on screwdriver-twisting sprees, so I am always looking for methods for carpal tunnel relief. There is no way I’d ever get surgery, not when there are better ways to treat the condition. I used to wear a surgical glove for carpal tunnel relief, and that worked wonders for me. I lost that old glove, and now I’ve found a replacement! I lost that old glove, and now I’ve found a replacement! I thought you had to get a prescription from a doctor to get wrist supports (at least, you did back then, I think), but not any more!

No project should harm your good health. It’s better to avoid the project, get help, or get some kind of brace or support to help you accomplish it. It’s too bad I had to learn my lesson the hard way- take care of your health and it will take care of you!
