My kids are teenagers. Well, one turned 20 this year (OMGOMG!!). We remember when the *first* Toy Story movie came out. Oh dear, my eldest went on a “Woody” binge. EVERYTHING had to be like a cowboy. We were dirt poor back then, and couldn’t afford a Woody doll. Oh, how I looked and looked for one! Finally, I found one- at Burger King! They were giving them away with a meal or something like that. You should have seen the look on my daughter’s precious little face when she got that Woody doll. Woody talked, too… “There’s a snake in my boots!” lol. I’ll betcha those toy marketing agencies make a FORTUNE. Fortunes upon fortunes! I think the only reason the Star Wars series went to the cartoon Clone Wars thing was so that they could continually flood the toy market with billions more action figures, spaceships, lightsaber toys, bed sheets, etc etc etc. These guys make a TON of money.
But I did like that Woody doll. I think he’s still around, somewhere.
He is mute, however, as his pull-string deteriorated. But his arms and legs are kinda jangly, like a rag doll- that’s why I liked him. You could have fun with him, and be creative. hee hee
So of course I laughed when I saw the latest talking Woody doll. Still so cute. Just something about it makes me want to get a new one for the daughter, for old times’ sake. The kids actually love Toy Story. We have the first two movies, and are looking forward to seeing the third one when it comes out on DVD. I hope it is as good as the others— sequels are usually worse, but the Toy Story sagas have been OK so far.
Buy.com has a slew of Toy Story paraphernalia, all so cute! Besides the Woody doll, there’s Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Bulls Eye (I LOVE Bulls Eye!!!!), wall decorations, Toy Story chairs, an Etch-a-Sketch (now THAT brings back memories from my own childhood), Toy Story Legos, the ubiquitous Ken and Barbie, and more. If you like to get an early start on your Christmas shopping, now’s the time. The stuff is selling like hotcakes.
Buy.com usually has smashing deals and sales on electronics, but they sell toys and a billion other things, too. The toy prices are very good (and so is everything else). I love their shipping- way way way speedy. I usually get my stuff in a day or two! And that’s for free shipping! Buy.com spoils their customers. :D
