I didn’t realize this until I saw this on a few blogs recently: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! It’s even more meaningful this month because Cryo-Cell International, the most established cord-blood/stem cell storage facility in the country, is joining in the fight against cancer. This is great news for women’s health. Cryo-Cell International has joined with the National Institutes of Health to explore the ways stem cells can treat breast cancer. And they’re ready to put their money where their heart is, too: Cryo-Cell has formed a Cyro-Cell Breast Cancer Donation, currently giving contributions to the Susan B. Komen Foundation. Cryo-Cell has pledged to give $50 to the foundation with every purchase of the “Protect Baby, Protect Mom” service, and $25 with every “C’elle Menstrual Stem Cell” service. You can read more about the sponsorship at the C’Elle Breats Cancer Donation page.
I have said before that the harvesting of stem cells from sources such as umbilical cord blood is much, much better than killing innocent babies and harvesting their stem cells. I continue to be in vehement disgust and dismay at the political push to use embryos as organ and stem cell banks. It has been proven that “adult” stem cells are just as viable and essential to medical research and treatment as embryonic stem cells. It is horrific to kill off innocent children; it is even more villianous to use them to harvest their parts; and it is unspeakable to continue to such things when adult stem cells and stem cells harvested in harmless ways (such as umbilical cord blood) is so readily available and easy. So I applaude Cryo-Cell’s efforts to get the word out about such stem cell collection and storage. It’s all the more encouraging to see such a well-established company heartily participate in something like treating breast cancer.
Check out the website to learn more about stem cell research, Cryo-Cell’s storage system, and consider participating in the Cyro-Cell Breast Cancer Donation. Think Pink!
