Well, actually, EVERY week is Be Kind to Animals Week!
But this is the week- May 3 through the 9th- where organizations have designated a special time period, set aside by the American Humane Association, to call attention to our loving little critters. There is a website, the Home Again Web Site, where you can read about some special ways to be kind to animals. One such action in particular is preventing your pet from getting lost, and/or provising a way to recover your pet should he get lost. I have a beagle and three cats. The beagle, as you can guess, has escaped about a hundred times! The cats are much better behaved, although my kitten Livvy is DESPERATE to get outside. I am terrified that she should escape and we would lose her.
HomeAgain is encouraing pet owners to outfit our pets with microchips. They will donate $1 to bringpetshome.com for every pet you register to the program until May 9th! BringPetsHome.com is a fundraising Web site specifically created to help shelter animals, so it’s all for a good cause. (BTW, you can also help support BringPetsHome.com by purchasing from “approved” vendors who donate to the organization when you buy their products). Well, I have been thinking about having my beagle and Livvy microchipped. I know some other pet owners who have done so, and I think it’s a good idea (especiallly since Livvy won’t wear a collar).
HomeAgain is a pet recovery service- they have helped recover half a million lost pets! HomeAgain charges an annual subscription fee to help recover your lost pet should he wander off, and the program also includes pet medical insurance, and more. Check out the site for more details. There’s a lot to learn about, and a lot we pet owners can do! This is the week to check it out and do it.
