TWFW on Thursday: Beauty

Blabber

I’m a day late! But since I skipped last week, I did not want to skip this week, as well.

I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, and lengthen his roots like Lebanon.

His branches shall spread; his beauty shall be like an olive tree, and his fragrance like Lebanon.

Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall be revived like grain, and grow like the vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon. Hosea 14:5-7

One thing I have noticed is that the recognition of the beauty of nature is universal. In other words, you never see anyone walk through a majestic forest or watch a brilliant sunset and exclaim, “How ugly!” It’s always “How beautiful!” Contrariwise, you never see anyone exclaim “How beautiful!” at the sight of a decaying brownfield lot, or the “concrete jungle” as Sinclair Lewis called it. Industrial edifices and ruins are always “How ugly!” It’s universal among mankind. Mankind gravitates toward order, symmetry, and beauty. He must conform and be taught to love chaos, disorder, and utilitarianism. So, yeah, while the fancy Delta fauctes are pretty as far as faucets go, compared to Niagara Falls- or the tiniest trickle flowing down a rocky precipice- it can’t compare. There’s just something about the beauty of God’s good earth that makes us admire it.

This is so true! Long before I was saved, even as a kid, I knew the God of creation, because of the incredibly beautiful things He has made. After I was saved, I knew what a blessing it is to be able to see these things every day, as opposed to those who live in NYC, who can’t even see the stars because of all the light.

To this day, I make a concerted effort in most of my photographs to feature God-made things instead of man-made things.

Thanks for participating, even if you were late. :)

    I put your link in.
