I know I am wading into very dangerous territory…. can’t imagine why, since BOTH modern-styled Democrat and Republican parties are totally nutso! :brudder:
Usually, watching presidential speeches can put you to sleep faster than a speeding bullet. But Ronald Reagan was simply an amazing master of the spoken word. Even my kids gather around the computer screen to listen to his speeches.
No matter what your political propensity might be, there is no denying that the late, great President Ronald Reagan was a marvelously witty and endearing man. I happened upon some old snippets of his speeches. The video editors clipped out the political segments and reserved the best parts- the jokes. Each video is very brief, usually about a minute duration. So sit back and enjoy some of the best moments of the 1980’s.
This is my all-time favorite Ronald Reagan one-liner. CLASSIC!
Here’s the witty comeback during his debate with opponent liberal Democrat Walter Mondale. Reagan was so endearing during that debate that the next day, my Democrat New York State neighbors promptly plucked all their “Elect Mondale” signs from their lawns. lol
Here’s a good homespun Democrat/Republican joke.
:groucho:
Finally, here’s the president scolding one of the dozen or so people who didn’t vote for Reagan in 1980.
:bananaguitar: Those were the good old days. LOL

Life is never dull, and exciting things just seem to always happen to me... why me... when I'm not running around the house fixing things, I'm a freelance writer for national media outlets like USAToday.com, Salon.com, and others. I've even been interviewed by TIME and The Wall Street Journal about blogging. Can you believe it?! Here is where I express my zany, creative, motherly side.

Thanks! A lot! I’d forgotten just how great he was at thinking on his feet and delivering a great line. I well remember watching the debate with Mondale when the age issue came up. I never missed another of RR’s televised speeches.

Karen, I adore Magnus Ronaldus. Not only for his wit, but his political views (federalism).

Chuck, he was just SO amazing, wasn’t he?! LOL. The kids and I have seen a few videos of his speeches, and they love him. He was a great man in character, too, from what I hear.

I really love Ronald Reagan! I wish that all of our Presidents would learn from him… it seems to me that he really “gots” what American politics is suppose to be about, if you know what I mean… His wit was great too; those are some funny videos! 🙂
There is one quote that I really like from him - In his remarks at the Annual Meeting of the United States Chamber of Commerce on April 26, 1982 he stated:
“To those who cite the first amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions and everyday life, may I just point out, the first amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values? It was written to protect religious values from government tyranny.”
