Everyone is talking about the New Year coming up. In the back of my mind is the very weighty realization that… I will now have to remember to write “10” on my checks instead of “09.” It usually takes me about 2 months to get it down regular.
With the New Year, my thoughts turn to what God has done, to make things new. Look at these terrific scriptures!!
…[I]f any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation… 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will make an end on the house of Israel and on the house of Judah; a new covenant shall be, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day I took hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in My covenant, and I did not regard them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My Laws into their mind and write them in their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Hebrews 8:8-10
Therefore, brothers, having boldness to enter into the Holy of Holies by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He has consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies having been washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22
Rev 21:5 And He sitting on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful.
I pray that this New Year is new to you in more ways than just in time, or in resolutions. Jesus Christ makes all things new within us!

Life is never dull, and exciting things just seem to always happen to me... why me... when I'm not running around the house fixing things, I'm a freelance writer for national media outlets like USAToday.com, Salon.com, and others. I've even been interviewed by TIME and The Wall Street Journal about blogging. Can you believe it?! Here is where I express my zany, creative, motherly side.

Amen! And what I think is so neat is that that word “new” literally means new, not in age, but in quality!

Nice verses, Rebecca. Comforting verses. Verses that inspire us to be all that we can be.
Blessings to you and yours for the new year.

I agree with you. When we write checks it may take some time to get the 2010 thing remembered. I like the different scriptures that you added to this post also.
I thought of an interesting New Years Resolution that can be done since you mentioned it. Many make resolutions and then don’t keep the. This year a good resolution could be to keep some old ones from last year, or the year before.
May you and your family have a blessed year in 2010.
