Whoa, this has got to be one of the classiest contests I’ve ever mentioned here. It’s from PopStation, and it’s a BIG Deal. Yes, it is! I know quite a few budding musical artists (including a bunch of them in my home!) that could be contenders… Here’s the scoop:
If you haven’t heard of Popstation yet, it’s a nifty website with online music made by “indies” (independent artists, etc). In a basic nutshell, it’s set up as a chance for blossoming singing artists to get their stuff into the open forum, perhaps qualify for an album deal. PopStation releases original songs Monday through Thursday, in the various genres, and you can practice them in the PopStation Practice Rooms for two weeks (PopStation provides everything you need- lyrics, backing tracks, etc). You record your singing; it’s entered into a pool, and voted on by the PopStation audience. All you need is a microphone and headphones and an angelic voice. There’s a helpful page, “How It Works” that has a lot more details about PopStation and the BIG Deal contest.
About the BIG Deal contest: this takes everything a step further- it’s done every three months. One artist that shines above the rest will get a three-night, all-expenses paid trip at a lovely hotel in New York City (transportation in the City included), where you will record your very own album with a professional production team! It’s a really, really BIG Deal, isn’t it! After the recording process and final mixing, your new album is featured on the Artists Page of PopStation, where everyone can hear it.
It’s a really great opportunity to get your talent out there. And if nothing else, it’s a great way to get to know how the recording industry works, how to record albums, etc. Oh, did I mention that it’s free to register at PopStation! ;) Check it out!

TOTALLY COOL!!!! I really (infinity) want to try out! I’ve always wanted to get a record label, but the demo recording is too hard for me to do by myself. This sounds like the perfect opportunity! Thanks for the info!
(Maybe I could tinker around with it just for fun!!!)

Jay- can I have your autograph now, before you are famous? I’ll be able to boast that I knew you “way back when,” and the autograph will make me rich!!

Sure, Rebecca! Our normal price is a fortune, but since it’s you, I’ll let you have it for a low, low price of $14.95 plus 5% of the proceeds once it sells.
Only kidding! I’d be glad to do one for free, if you still want it!
