Wordy Wednesday, Before the Storm

Blabber

It’s been a remarkable winter here in Upstate New York. I think my area has had a whopping 3 inches of snowfall TOTAL. As I look out my window, the sun is shining, the grass is green… yeehaw, I think I just joined Team Global Warming. *snicker*

However, the weather gurus have interrupted my reverie. They say an ice storm is on the way tomorrow and then we will experience a “season” of cold winter weather. But they said that two weeks ago, lol.

On cold mornings, my kitty snuggles with me under the blankets. It’s so cute. But after a while she radiates so much heat that I end up gasping for fresh air and throwing off the covers, thus ending the cute snugglies.

Why are e-books so expensive? I can pick up a paperback (or even hardcover) book for one penny at Amazon (yeah, shipping is usually $5!) but e-books are usually $9.99 to $19.99. All for a tiny text file? And the prices are the same no matter what e-book store I use, iBooks, Kindle, or Google Books. So comparative shopping is out. You can’t even share e-books with friends like you can regular books! I read so quickly that if I had to buy a new book every time, I’d be spending upwards of $200 a month on $10 books!

I’m hoping the cost of e-books go down. I like reading with an e-book because I can enlarge the print and adjust the light. I do shop around for free books, but those are usually very old. I like reading old books with their archaic language, so I have a lot of those books. But sometimes, at the end of a long mind-scrambling day, I just want to relax and read something that won’t fry my brain, lol.

Do you have any good (free) e-book recommendations for me?

I’m really looking forward to March Spring Break. Last year, I’d purchased train tickets at a great discounted price for my two daughters and me to go to New York City and see Alexander Hamilton’s home, The Grange. It’s been restored and made into a national memorial site. I also hope to visit The Cloisters, a medieval museum that is made from a real, reconstructed medieval French abbey! The tickets are our birthday presents to each other. I love visiting the the city and this trip will show me an area I’ve not seen before, Harlem and Washington Heights.

I’ve been reading a bunch of daily devotionals, one by Joyce Meyer, one by Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest) and one by someone unnamed (or, his name is not evident to me at least). I have never read a Joyce Meyer book before and I am pleasantly surprised at how good it is! She speaks simply and is very encouraging.

I haven’t taken one of those kooky Internet quizzes in a long time. I took one that said I was a “Type A” personality (hoh boy, no surprise there). This one was fun:

You Are Blackberry Iced Tea

You are funky and creative. You like to turn the world upside down just for fun.

You believe that some of the best things in live are undiscovered. You’re very attracted toward the offbeat.

You’re the type of person who likes music, movies, and places no one else has heard of.

You’re not that weird… you’re just attracted to the quirkier side of life. So much in this world is underrated!

What Flavor Iced Tea Are You?

Here’s another cute one. Me and Livvy the Cat are very similar, turns out. LOL.

You Are a Tiger

You’re very restless and bored easily. You get antsy easily… you need to wander.

You’ve been known to pick fights just for the fun of it. You love a good debate.

You value independence and the freedom to do what you want. You refuse to be told what to do.

If someone plays hard to get with you, it makes you all the more interested. You love a challenge.

What’s Your Inner Big Cat?

But do you have to MOW the grass like me? Mine could use another mowing right about now but I refuse to do that until at least March when the weeds are so tall I can’t find the dogs.

RE E-books. I was just wondering that myself. I went to B&N over the weekend and cruised the sale items and could have gotten some hard back books for less than what I would have to pay for an e-book. I was almost tempted to buy them too but then I thought about it and the reasoning for not obtaining them would mean I’d have to start another box for books since I don’t have any place to put them now lol I have 6 boxes of books and have been giving away the paperbacks but will keep the hard back books forever as most of them are 1st editions - granted they aren’t historical books or anything just the stuff I read. I have a ton of e-book less than 9.99 though so not sure on the different pricing from Kindle to NookBooks

If you had a Nook of some sort I could lend you all the books I have if you wanted to read them for free just like a lending library. I also can go to any B&N and read over 200+ books for an hour each day for free too and it’s not crappy ones either, newly released books are in there.

One of our pooches sleeps in bed with us and sometimes i fry up. I’m usually the one that gets cold…. Hope you have some luck finding cheaper e-books. I’ve only read free ones and have only bought one as of now. I think, through Amazon…
